Jio Phone Gets a New Rival as Airtel, Celkon Partner On Rs. 1,349 Android Smartphone

Airtel has partnered with domestic phone maker Celkon to bring down the effective price of the Smart 4G Android phone to Rs. 1,349. This is the second such partnership for Airtel under its 'Mera Pehla Smartphone' initiative, wherein it provides cashback to users on sticking to its network for three years to bring down the price of the handset. The Airtel Celkon Smart 4G partnership has been launched in response to the Jio Phone, a 4G-capable feature phone that offers smartphone-like features at zero effective price over a three-year period.

Samsung hands out free Galaxy Note 8 to ALL 200 passengers on a flight, tells them it's safe

A year ago, many people were told they could not fly with their Galaxy Note 7 because it was prone to fire due to battery issues. Now, Samsung is reportedly handing out free Galaxy Note 8 units to fliers in a bid to tell the world that its latest Note phone is as safe as a chocolate bar on airplanes. Sounds implausible but then when you are Samsung you can pull it off something like this. The company indeed handed out 200 free Galaxy Note 8 -- packed and sealed in retail boxes -- to all passengers on a flight in Spain.

Moto G5S Midnight Blue Variant

Lenovo's Moto brand has launched a new variant of recently introduced Moto G5S, the company said. The new variant, priced at Rs. 14,999, comes in Midnight Blue colour option. As an introductory offer, the company is selling the Moto G5S Midnight Blue variant at Rs. 12,999 this Diwali season. The Moto G5S Midnight Blue colour variant is available for purchase from retail stores and Moto Hubs. The introductory price of Rs. 12,999 as well as several EMI schemes will end on October 21, the company said, after which it will charge customers 14,999. The Moto G5S was launched in India in August at a price point of Rs. 13,999. Until now it was available in only Lunar Grey and Fine Gold colour variants. For a refresh, the Moto G5S features a 5.2-inch full-HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection in an all-metal body form factor. It is powered by Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 430 (MSM8937) SoC clocked at 1.4GHz, and 4GB of RAM. Android 8.0 Oreo Now Available for OnePlus 3, 3T; OnePlus 5

OnePlus was among several handset brands that promised an Android 8.0 Oreo update for its recent devices when Google revealed it for the first time. The company said that the OnePlus 5 as well as OnePlus 3 and 3T will receive the new Android build. After releasing the update in closed beta, the Chinese company has now made it available through the Open Beta program. Additionally, the OnePlus is receiving new a OxygenOS 4.5.13 update with improvements. The company has made first Android O open beta build available to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users will receive OxygenOS Open Beta 25 and Open Beta 16 respectively. For user convenience, the company has detailed flash instructions to download the latest build. Xiaomi Redmi 5A With Snapdragon 425, MIUI 9

Xiaomi has launched the latest entry-level smartphone, the Redmi 5A. Much like the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A features a metal-like matte texture which the company claims is "much lighter than the metal." The company is also highlighting lightweight body of the Redmi 5A with 137 grams. Android Wear 2.0 will get future updates from Google Play Store, adds WhatsApp integration

Hoi Lam, Moderator of Android Wear Developers, says new features can now be delivered directly via Play Store rather than offering it as an OTA update. With Android Wear 2.0, the updates can now be rolled out directly from Play Store when the Android Wear app on the watch is updated. "The aim is to publish more timely improvements between OTAs," Lam writes in his post. Lam doesn't outline any major features coming to the platform in the interim future but he adds that Google recently pushed one upgrade through Play Store last week. The new features include third-party chat app support including WhatsApp in Contacts and reduced accidental entry into the watch face picker. The update also improves Play Store discoverability for new users among other features and bug fixes.

Nokia kills off Ozo high-end virtual reality cameras

The Ozo and its follow-up the Ozo+ had been marketed to professionals as being able to capture the "highest quality" 360-degree footage possible, and had been used by Disney among others. But despite a recent price cut, the Finnish firm indicated that sales had been weaker than expected. One expert said it reflected the fact that public appetite for VR content was still very limited. In a statement, Nokia said it now planned to dedicate its efforts to developing smart health products instead, and would leave it to others to build on its work in VR.
