As per data shared by analytics firm MUSO, Episode 1 of Game of Thrones season 8 was pirated and viewed 55 million times in 24 hours across illegal streams, torrents and other download avenues. According to the data, 76.6 percent of the 55 million illegal views came from unofficial streaming sources, while downloads made up 12.2 percent of the number and torrents (public and private) accounted for 11 percent of the 55 million.

Google Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL are being tested in India

A couple of days after the Google Pixel 3a appeared as a link on Google's own Play Store, a famous tipster has claimed that both the mid-range offerings from the search giant are being tested in India. Roland Quandt also says that the price of these two devices will be very low in the country when compared to the pricing in Europe and the US. However, he clears that he is not sure whether the prices are the retail value of the handsets.

Quandt says that the Pixel 3a was valued at $300 (approx Rs 21,000) and the Pixel 3a XL was $350 (approx Rs 24,300) when they were imported for testing in India. It could be possible that these prices are only the import values and when the phones launch, they could be priced more than $300 and $350 respectively. Recently, a report claimed that the Pixel 3a could be priced at Euro 450 (approx Rs 34,977 approx) for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model.

This 32-inch Android smart TV costs just Rs 4,999

Delhi-based Samy Informatics on Wednesday introduced a 32-inch Android Smart TV, priced at Rs 4,999, which would cost a consumer around Rs 7,000 after shipping and installation costs of Rs 1,200 and a GST of 18%.

Claiming it to be the cheapest LED TV in the market, Samy Informatics Director Avinash Mehta said the company is targeting the lower income family group besides other classes. To cut the cost, the firm is introducing a revenue generating mechanism with the TV units, which it would sell in the market.

Exploring and Recording Textiles in the British Library Collections

Frances Casey, PhD Research PlacementIt is perhaps not widely known that the British Library has a diverse and fascinating range of textiles which span all collection areas. These textiles range from fabric covers for Torah scrolls and silk escape maps of Berlin, to a Japanese children's book resembling a baby in a sleeping bag and Captain Cook's samples of bark cloth from the South Pacific Islands. Yet, despite the number of textiles in the collections, many of these have not been recorded or catalogued in their own right, although most have a Library shelfmark. If textile items have been catalogued in the Library, then their descriptions can be inconsistent.Following on from an investigation by the Library's Textile Conservator, Liz Rose, my role as part of the British Library's PhD placement scheme was to identify textiles in the Library and record information about them into a textile specific database. This involved referring to and searching the Library catalogues, as well as liaising with curators across collections to view textile items, photograph them, and input their details into the textile database using the Library's shelfmark system.Despite the wide variety of textiles in the Library, it is possible to identify three general forms that they take in the collections. These can be loosely termed: Textual Textiles; Associated Textiles; and Component Textiles – although some can be a combination of these.Textual TextilesAs the library is primarily concerned with written content as well as images and sound, books and manuscripts comprise the main part of the Library collections. In some cases, textiles can take the form of the text and image items. For example, the theatrical playbill shown here is printed on silk. This playbill is the 'textual' item of interest to the library.

What is an Application Centric Network?

An application network is a way to connect applications, data, and devices to utilize some or all of the assets and data on the network.

Instead of utilizing point-to-point connections or isolated architectures, the application network allows applications to be plugged into the network Additionally, an application network makes an organization more agile and respond to changes in the market.

Every new node added to the network will increase the network's value since the data & capabilities are made discoverable and consumable by others on the network. This makes it easier for someone to create an application, make use of data, or create an API to provide an experience and expose that value to the network

The key is reusing a node; a node must be reusable elsewhere simply by connecting to the network.

IT needs to be able to integrate systems, leverage big data, while maintaining stability & control.

Considerations

Success depends on self-interest. An application network needs to align with the company's goals and objectives while creating assets that are sustainable and reusable.

Business intelligence. An application centric network allows for data to be shared and used for different purposes. Data can however be manipulated and misunderstood. There needs to be context built into the database of information so that the data is validated against the assumptions it is recorded in.

Security & privacy. In an application centric network an open way of architecture requires a different way to address the security of the network and data. Different domains can have different security policies, which allows enterprises to segment and provide access to data depending on the source, consumers, geographic location, or other factors.

Budgets. If a business unit has the budget to invest in an IT project and will create data that is useful for other business units, how should IT budgets be changed to adapt to business demands?
