Diabetes and Adiposity Cause 1 in 20 Cancers Worldwide

Nearly 6% of cancers, equating to almost 800,000 cases globally, were attributable to type 2 diabetes and overweight/obesity in 2012, new data show, with adiposity being responsible for almost twice as many cases as diabetes.

The study represents the first to estimate the worldwide cancer burden due to diabetes alone and also to diabetes and high body mass index (BMI) combined, say Jonathan Pearson-Stuttard, BMBCh, Imperial College London, United Kingdom, and colleagues in their paper published online November 28 in Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

Women twice as likely as men susceptible to asthma

WASHINGTON: Women are twice as likely as men to have asthma, and this gender difference may be caused by the effects of sex hormones on lung cells, a study has found.

Researchers found that testosterone hindered an immune cell linked to asthma symptoms, such as inflammation and mucus production in the lungs.

"When we started this study, we really thought that ovarian hormones would increase inflammation, more so than testosterone making it better," said Dawn Newcomb, from the Vanderbilt University in the US.

How Opioids Started Killing Americans

t's been conventional wisdom for some time now that America's opioid epidemic began at the pharmacy. Now there are numbers that put any doubt to rest.

More than half of all people who succumbed to an overdose between 2001 to 2007 were chronic pain sufferers who filled an opioid prescription and sometimes even saw a doctor in the month before they died. Only 4 percent were ever diagnosed as having an abuse problem, said Dr. Mark Olfson, one of five researchers who conducted a massive study of the crisis and its causes for Columbia University Medical Center.

The app doesn't remove the notch per se, it just makes the notch invisible by placing a black bar across the tops of images that you must then assign to your Wallpapers in the iOS settings. Nevertheless, the end result looks like a traditional unibrow status bar, instead of the two brows currently found at the top of the iPhone X's home and lock screens.

Samsung Galaxy A5 2018 will most likely ship with Galaxy S8-like Infinity screen

According to the leaked listing, at least one of the two Galaxy A 2018 phones, will have an unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio. This phone is said to be the Galaxy A5 (2018) but since Samsung is known to maintain uniformity, as far as design is concerned, in both its A5 and A7 phones, we can expect the feature to be part of the Galaxy A7 (2018) as well.
